As a child I traveled around the world, living in different countries in Africa, Asia and Europe. My parents are from The Netherlands and England, originally. I have lived in the US since I was thirteen, and in Oregon since 1996. I went to high school in Texas, and college at the University of Virginia, where I received a BA in Biology. I went to veterinary school at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine outside of Boston. I graduated in 1996.
I entered the veterinary field because of my love of science, animals and problem solving. I also love teaching. I have always been interested in the study of animal behavior and took several behavior clinic rotations at Tufts University while in veterinary School. I had the opportunity to work with Dr. Nicholas Dodman at Tufts University Behavior Clinic. I also took classes with Brian Kilcommons, a very successful dog trainer.I have continued to read and take classes on animal behavior and dog training. I have always enjoyed teaching clients how to take care of their pets, and being able to teach them about their puppies and puppy behavior in the puppy
socialization classes is very exciting for me. I enjoy spending time with my family outside of the clinic. We enjoy hiking, bird watching, movies and sports.
I enjoy knitting, reading and working with my dogs. We have two dogs and one cat. Duncan is a seven year old Cairn Terrier. Zoey is a one and a half year old Cairn Terrier. Roxy is our cat who adopted us. My husband, Mathew, and I have 5 kids, ages 9 to 19
